Occording to the OED, a single story is a "lai" and not "lay." Maybe you would want to go back and change it in your essay. OED gives this definition for LAI: a. One of a number of short narrative poems written either in French or in English in England between the twelfth and the fifteenth centuries, of a Celtic type and concerned with love, magic, and music. Often called Breton lais. b. A medieval French lyric associated with the trouvères of Northern France.

Good luck with the final exam!
